February: J Dilla Month (Reblog)

If you didn’t know, J.Dilla is regarded as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. Born on February 7th, 1974, Jay Dee amazed us with his out-of-this-world beats and production. In addition to being a part of Slum Village, Jay played a key role in critically acclaimed albums by artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Common to name a few. Black Milk is also highly influenced by J.Dilla’s legacy. On February 10th, 2006, at the age of 32, James Yancey passed away from a blood disease. Since then, J.Dilla’s life has been widely celebrated and commemorated by the hip hop community. This month, events all around the world are taking place in memory as February is named J.Dilla month. Celebrate Jay Dee’s life this month (or every other month) by playing a track a day or bumping Donuts all day long!

J Dilla // The $ (Madlib Remix)

One of the two Dilla tracks Madlib remixed on the 2008 Stones Throw “Hella International”.

Aloe Blacc // Very First Time

I am really diggin’ this track by the ever talented Stones Throw heavyweight.  Blacc produced this tripped out beat, and rhymes a couple dope verses over it.  Definitely looking forward to his next rap album which he says will be dropping shortly.

"I had the following since high school. Instead of doing sports or playing video games, I was making music. Mixed it, mastered, manufactured it. Then we just went to the stores and sold them. We got shows on consignment."
