Mistah Rapsey is my name..
staying underground
is the experience..

I’ve been traveling since my youth searching for experiences of truth. An old soul back again to discover what I left uncovered. I love to love and live to laugh. Enrolled in a school called Knowledge of Self. Paying attention is my drug. Learning to live Life like music and flow with the rhythm, careful not to miss a beat. A renaissance man, Life is my art project. An habitual nomad, I roam to evolve. Music and cannabis are my constant companions. Interested in people, i’m always searching for my tribe. The beauty of the wilderness is the closest i’ve come to experiencing Truth.

Great call on that Alton Elis. My stepdad, Wayne Jarrett, probably knows him, hell, probably worked with him at one point. Woke up to the sounds of this rocksteady this morning and its been just gold coming out of the speakers.

Awesome sound suggestion. (link people to it once you reply. Spread the love. :D )

Yeah his music is amazing, its such a mix of styles, you can really hear the Motown influence.  I also woke up to Alton Ellis the other day, and i agree its is very golden.  I’m gonna check out Wayne Jarret’s music, you should collaborate with him.

Jah!

Alton Ellis // You Make Me So Very Happy Here

I love everything about this song, the melody, the simple lyrics, the reggae beat, the soulful voice…

“I love so much you see, you’re even in my dreams
I can hear baby, I can hear you calling me
I’m so in love with you, all I ever want to do is
Thank you baby, thank you baby..”

-Alton Ellis

Alton Ellis // Why Birds Follow Spring

If you don’t have Cry Tough in your music collection you are missing out on one of my favourite rock steady albums.

“Why some trees, oooohh, are so tall
While others they stay small
Why’s yesterday like today
It follows tomorrow..”

Alton Ellis // Girl I’ve Got A Date

I wish I had discovered Alton Ellis years ago.  In my opinion he had the best voice in rocksteady music.

“Girl I’ve got a date
And I just mean, I can’t stay late, whoah-ooo-oo.
All my life and I’ve warning you, girl
And not just once or twice
Take this from me:
I’m as free as the birds in the tree-eee”

Derrick Morgan // Fat Man

In 1959 Morgan entered the recording studio for the first time. Duke Reid, the acclaimed sound system boss, was looking for talent to record for his Treasure Isle record label. Morgan cut two popular shuffle-boogie sides “Lover Boy”, a.k.a. “S-Corner Rock”, and “Oh My”. Soon after, Morgan cut the bolero tinged boogie, “Fat Man”, which also became a hit.

Derrick Morgan is a legendary Jamaican artist who has worked with the likes of Desmond Dekker, Bob Marley, and Jimmy Cliff.

“I know you’re feeling gloomy dear
Over the night we spent with alot of tears
You’ve got to lie in your bed
Contemplating in your mind
Whether you were right or wrong

Hopeton Lewis // Take It Easy

Lewis began recording in the mid-1960s, and had one of the earliest rocksteady hits with “Take It Easy” in late 1966. His rich baritone has had a profound impact on Jamaican music, and his mixture of gospel and soul elements helped set the template for early rocksteady.
