Staying Underground
"True to the Roots from Seed to Fruit"
..a thought seed blog curated by Mistah Rapsey
I’ve been traveling since my youth searching for the experience of truth. Old soul back again to discover what I left uncovered. I love to love and live to laugh. Enrolled in a school called Knowledge of Self. Paying attention is my drug. Learning to live Life like music and flow with the rhythm, careful not to miss a beat. A renaissance man, Life is my art project. An habitual nomad, I roam to evolve. Music and cannabis are my constant companions. Interested in people, i’m always searching for my tribe. The beauty of the wilderness is the closest i’ve come to experiencing Truth.

Black Thought- Been Thru The Storm Ft. Stevie Wonder (J.Period Exclusive)
Black Thought rapping over a sick beat provided by the creative mind that is J.Period, with a hook by Stevie Wonder!
This is a music fiends grade ‘A’ right here.
J.Period & G. Brown- March 9th
The Complete B.I.G. Tribute Collection (Collector’s Edition)
J.Period is one of my favorite mixtape dj’s in the game, has done mixtapes for the like of The Roots, Q-tip, Isley Brothers, Nneka and K’naan. The blends on this tape are perfect, Suicidal Thoughts with the Renagade beat is incredible, the version over the Geto Boys ‘6 Feet Deep’ is fire as well.
This is the final Biggie mixtape i’m going to upload but if I was only going to have one Biggie mixtape, this would be it. In my opinion this is the definitive Notorious B.I.G. mixtape.
Q-Tip // Give Up the Goods ft. Nas & Mobb Deep (J.Period Remix)
J.Period is my favorite mixtape DJ period, all his ‘best of’ mixtapes are incredible.
J.Period x The Roots x John Legend – Wake Up! Radio [Mixtape]
“When this project began, I was excited to explore the legacy of soul music behind the WAKE UP! album, but I had no idea of the level of access and creative freedom I would be granted by John Legend & The Roots to tell that story. The result is not only something that traces musical history lines from artists like Marvin Gaye to contemporaries like John Legend — but something that adds to that history: brand new collaborative tracks as if Marvin & John recorded together. It’s simply unprecedented on a mixtape. And I am particularly proud of the fact that all of it speaks to the true power of music to carry a message, and have a positive impact on society, and on people’s lives.”

Lauryn Hill // Bonita Applebum (J.Period remix)
Fugees x Native Tongues equals the sweetest combination..
The Roots // Been Thru The Storm ft. Stevie Wonder
This track has been in a playlist folder for a mixtape for years now. It never quite made it but it definitely was in heavy rotation a couple years ago. There’s something about Stevie Wonder on a Roots track that never fails to make me feel good. This collabo is from the J.Period mixtape ‘The Best Of The Roots’.
The Roots // Like Water (Remix) ft. Lauryn Hill (Produced by J.Period)
i love this. i could live in a legendary roots x ms. hill world forever.
